Industrial Control System Cybersecurity - Historical Attacks and Modern Challenges

Abstract

Industrial control system (ICS) is a collective term used to describe different types of control systems and associated instrumentation, which include the devices, systems, networks, and controls used to operate and/or automate industrial processes and critical infrastructure.

This talk will cover the history of cyber attacks on ICS and the malware designed for them. It will start with the first major ICS attack of Stuxnet in 2010 and end with the current Industroyer 2.0 malware that was recently deployed against Ukraine.

It will also cover the differences encountered when securing an ICS network and the challenges that are faced when doing so.
